How do I turn off live photos? How to disable

The Live Photos feature makes it possible for you to take a photo as a sequence on all newer iPhone models. If you do not want to use the feature, but only want to take a still picture, you need to manually disable it. We'll show you how to turn off Live Photos here.

How to permanently turn off the Live Photos feature

All users who own an iPhone 6s or newer have the ability to capture not only a photo itself, but also the moment just before and just after it was taken through the Live Photos feature. However, since Live Photos require significantly more storage space than normal still images, it can be useful to turn the feature off. Since Live Photo capture is enabled by default on all new iPhones, disabling the feature can only be done manually.
  1. To turn off Live Photo capture, first open your iPhone's Settings app by tapping the "gear icon."
  2. In Settings, then go to the "Photos & Camera" section and select the "Keep Settings" entry.
  3. Now still tap on the option "Live Photo" to no longer use the function in the future.

How is the temporary deactivation possible

Alternatively to the permanent deactivation of the recording of live photos, you can also turn off the function only once for the next photo. To do this, open the iPhone's camera app and tap the "circle icon" above the photo screen. If the icon is yellow, the Live Photo function is activated. If, on the other hand, the icon is black and white, only normal still images will be taken until you restart the camera app.
