Facebook: Change your password - here's how

Facebook recommends changing your password at regular intervals. In this way, you increase security and reduce the risk of misuse. Our guide shows you how.

On Facebook, you can change the password with just a few clicks.

Change Facebook password: This is how easy it is in the browser

Before you change your password, keep the following rule in mind: never use the same password for multiple accounts, for example, for your Facebook account, your email address and Instagram. Like most settings, changing your Facebook password is best done in the browser:
  1. Log in to Facebook and open the settings. These can be found by clicking on the top right icon with the arrow down.
  2. Navigate to "Settings and Privacy" > "Settings" and click on "Security and Login"
  3. Then click next to the "Change Password" entry on "Edit" and enter your previous password and below twice the new password.
  4. Click "Save changes".
The change will be active immediately: the next time you log in, you will need your new password. In the app, you can get to the password by opening the menu, going to "Settings and Privacy" > "Settings"> "Security and Login" and tapping on "Change password". Since the Facebook password affects your entire account regardless of platform, the same password rules apply as described at the beginning.
