No Man's Sky: Dust off the freighter and get started

You get a free freighter as follows:

1. Warp into new systems.
2. Normally, you will see a freighter under attack no later than the fifth time. Per distress signal you will be asked to help.
3. Fight the enemy pirates. Have you defeated all the pirates, you will be asked to board the freighter.

There the commander offers you the freighter out of gratitude. Usually, it is a freighter of the C-class. For the beginning, however, this is not a problem, after all, it is about getting to know this side of the game first. The freighter is the base for organizing the fleet, which you can now build up with frigates, in turn sending them on expeditions, which will earn you various rewards.
