Disable TrustedInstaller - how to do it

The TrustedInstaller is a Windows service that loads and manages installation modules. Furthermore, the service also prevents files on the computer from being modified without consent. Sometimes, however, this also blocks intentional editing of files. If this is the case, you can temporarily disable the TrustedInstaller in the Windows settings.

How to temporarily disable TrustedInstaller

If you want to disable TrustedInstaller, this works via msconfig. There you have the option to turn the service on and off. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Call the Run dialog with the key combination [Windows] and [R].
  2. Enter "msconfig" in the input field and confirm the entry by clicking "OK".
  3. Enter your user name and the associated password, if necessary. A new window will then open with various setting options.
  4. Switch to the "Services" tab.
  5. Search for the "Windows Module Installer" entry in the list.
  6. Uncheck the checkbox to disable the service.
  7. Finally, click "OK" to save the changes and restart the computer.
Now try again to run the previously failed installation. Since TrustedInstaller is now no longer active, this should be done without any problems. So that there are no problems afterwards with operations such as Windows Update, it is important that you enable the service again after completing the installation. Simply activate the checkbox for the "Windows Module Installer" service in Msconfig.
