Excel: Calculate standard deviation

With Excel you can do all kinds of calculations. The clever spreadsheet program from Microsoft has been very popular for quite a few years and is used in many offices. Statistical calculations on groups of values can also be easily performed with the program. All you have to do is call up certain functions.

How is the standard deviation calculated in Excel?

With Excel you can calculate not only the standard deviation, but also other calculations such as the mean or the variance are no problem.
  1. First you need to enter the values whose standard deviation you want to calculate in a column in the table.
  2. Having done that, click on an empty field and write in them "=STABW(cell1: cell2)". Here you replace "cell1" with the cell in which the values start and "cell2" with the cell in which the values end.
  3. If you have entered values from A2 to A8, for example, the function call must be "=STABW(A2:A8)". You can tell that everything has worked correctly by the fact that the correct cells appear highlighted.
  4. With this procedure, you can calculate even more statistical values. "=AVERAGE(A2:A8)" calculates the average of all values that are in the cells from A2 to A8. „=VARIANZ(A2:A8)“ berechnet die Varianz.
Auch andere Zahlenwerte lassen sich mit Excel berechnen, beispielweise der Durchschnitt. Sie können ebenfalls Stunden addieren, um die korrekte Uhrzeit auszurechnen.
