OneNote doesn't sync - what you can do

There are several aspects that cause the synchronization of your notes in OneNote not to work. Thereby, it is often small things that are responsible for you having problems. Often you just need to invest some time to fix the error.

This is what you can do if syncing fails

Sometimes, simply an overload or an error during the transfer can be responsible for the sync failing.
  1. First, open the OneNote app on a device of your choice and click "File". Following this, select the option "Information".
  2. Now you get an overview of your notebooks and must select the notebook where synchronization problems occurred.
  3. Open the settings and close the notebook. Close OneNote completely.
  4. Now use a browser to get to OneNote Online. Return to the selected notebook and click "Open in OneNote".
  5. When the notebook has opened, you will need to synchronize again. In most cases, you can now use the updated version on all your devices.

What else can be helpful?

Sometimes one of your devices will take an update that runs unnoticed in the background. This can cause OneNote to hang. In this case, it may help if you simply close OneNote on all devices and reopen it. Or delete your Microsoft account in one of your devices and then re-enter it. Often the error can also be fixed by checking that you are using the latest version everywhere.
