Synchronize Steam Cloud - how to do it

Synchronizing your games from the Steam client with the Steam Cloud will help you save your game progress. We'll show you how to check if syncing is supported for a game and what to do if the cloud doesn't work here.

How syncing with the Steam Cloud works

To protect your game progress from being lost, Steam offers you the option to sync it with the Steam Cloud and save it there. The synchronization is performed automatically, but is not available for all games.
  1. To check whether a particular game supports synchronization with the Steam Cloud, please open the Steam library as a list view in the Steam client first.
  2. If you see a cloud icon next to the name of the game, it is synchronizing its saves with the cloud.
  3. If a game does not use the Steam cloud, you will have to back it up manually by finding the folder with the game saves on your computer and copying it to a USB stick.

This helps if the Steam cloud does not sync

If the sync of the game saves with the cloud does not work, even though it is supported by the game, it may be that the sync is turned off. To change this, please right-click on the game, go to "Properties" and put a checkmark next to the "Steam Cloud" entry. If the problem persists, check if the synchronization is blocked by the firewall by temporarily disabling it. Performing an update for the Steam client can also help to fix the problem.
