Android 11: Rotate screen - all info at a glance

Android devices automatically adjust the orientation of the screen as soon as you rotate the smartphone. On Android 11, the screen also automatically adjusts to the orientation of your smartphone. You have the option to turn the feature on and off via the settings.

Turn automatic screen rotation on and off

On Android devices, you can turn automatic screen rotation on and off for better operation. If the feature is active, the screen automatically switches between portrait and landscape mode as soon as you rotate the phone.
  1. Go to the settings of your smartphone.
  2. Switch to the category "Operating aids".
  3. Select the option "Rotate screen automatically" to activate or deactivate the function.
Alternatively, you can also turn the function on and off via the notification menu. To do so, swipe your finger down from the top edge of the screen until you can see the icons in the menu. There you will find a slider for the screen brightness and other options, as well as an icon that says "rotate screen" or "auto rotate". If you tap the icon, you can conveniently turn the feature on and off without having to open the settings every time.

Caution with other input devices

Beware that there can be complications with other input devices when the automatic rotation is active. Namely, if you use the screen reader TalkBack implemented in Android, it is better to turn the feature off, as turning will interrupt the speech output.
