Word: These are jump marks - and how to use them

The more extensive a Word document is, the more practical the functions for quick navigation in the text. Jump marks play an important role here, and we explain how to use them successfully.

Jump navigation: use jump marks to quickly find the previous mouse pointer positions.

A jump marker allows you to jump to the text position where the cursor was before by using a key combination.

How to use jump marks in Word

The application is accordingly simple:
  • The combination is "Shift" + "F5".
  • This shortcut automatically jumps the cursor to the previous position in the text. How far away this is, does not matter: whether one paragraph or ten pages, jump marks always work according to the same principle.
  • You can use the key combination several times in a row to find not only the last cursor position, but also the one before.
This is possible up to four times in total for the four previous cursor positions. Afterwards you will be back at the position where you pressed "Shift" + "F5" for the first time.
