In Excel, you have numerous formatting types at your disposal. With these it is possible to highlight the contents of your cells, for example, or to prepare them for further calculations. Usually, a date is formatted as a date. However, you can also convert the content into a text.

How to convert a date to text in Excel

In Excel you have various functions that allow you to format the contents in your spreadsheet. In most cases, dates are converted to a date format in order to use them appropriately for further formulas and calculations. However, there are also use cases where you need the date as text.

1. Mark a cell in which you need the output of a date as text.
2. Now enter the corresponding formula specifying the cell number in which the date is located, in the following, for example, the cell A1 in which the date 24.06.2020.
3. Use the formula "=TEXT(A1; "DDD")", then you get as output Wednesday.
4. If you use instead of "DDD" now "MMMM", you get the month "June". With "YYYY" you also get the year. In this case, that would be "2020".
5. If you want to output the entire date as text, then you can combine the information in a formula. Use for this the expression "=TEXT (A1; "DDD TT.MMMM YYYY")". As output you get "Wednesday 24 June 2020".
6. If you want to output the day, month and year as text, on the other hand, then you can use the formulas "=DAY(A1)", "=MONTH(A1)" and "=YEAR(A1)".
