F1 2019: How traction control works - our tips

If you're piloting a racing car for the first time in F1 2019, you might be wondering about the tremendous grip even in corners. This is due to traction control, and we explain everything you need to know about it.

Full grip, slow times: Traction control is not permanently advisable.

Traction control exists in all modern cars. It registers as soon as a wheel threatens to lose grip and spin and counteracts by minimizing power.

F1 2019: Traction control with advantages and disadvantages

In F1 2019, traction control works the same way. Under racing aspects, however, this has not only advantages, because:
  • Since the traction control intervenes in the performance, the race car remains stable, but can not use its full potential.
  • Who wants to optimize his lap times, which should consequently deactivate the traction control.
  • This requires some initial training, because suddenly every movement on the gas pedal has a strong impact. With keyboard, driving without traction control is virtually impossible, since the keys only allows a binary input ("gas" / "no gas"). Urgently needed, however, is a dosage, as it is only possible with controller or pedal.
  • On the first few laps, the vehicle may seem uncontrollable because it breaks out so quickly. However, it is worth not to give up: Over time, you will develop a better and better feel for where the limits are at the gas pedal in which situation. As a result, your lap times get better and better, and after a while the fine-tuning happens quite automatically.
Of all the driving aids, traction control makes the biggest difference to times. The influence in F1 2019 is significantly greater than that of the anti-lock braking system and for this reason alone it is recommended to do without the aid.
