DVI-D or DVI-I - these are the differences

When using monitors, the connection is especially important. So that you can use the devices, you need the appropriate cables. This also includes the DVI connection. This is available in two different versions. Even if the two DVI-D and DVI-I connectors are similar at first glance, they have differences in detail.

1. A DVI-D and a DVI-I connector have either a continuous surface with pins or two equal-sized fields on the left and right. The former is a so-called dual link, while the latter is a single link.
2. The two connectors also have in common the two transverse plug connectors.
3. In contrast to the DVI-I connector, DVI-D has four fewer plug contacts, but the transmission capabilities are also different. DVI-D can only transmit digital signals, while DVI-I supports both digital and analog signals.
4. The DVI-I connector can have both 18 and 24 plug-in connectors. Zudem besitzt er noch weitere vier kleine Steckkontakte, die um eine Art „plusförmigen“ Schlitz liegen. Letzteres wird für analoge Signale benötigt.
