Excel: Set column width - here's how to do it

Even with the best sense of proportion, it is impossible to set the column width in a document exactly the same. Our guide therefore shows you what Excel has in store for this purpose.

The same column width can be important both visually and in terms of content.

Cells of unequal width can be visually distracting. There it offers itself to set a uniform column width.

Excel: Column width everywhere the same - so it goes

If all columns - or even only the columns in certain areas - should have the same width, proceed as follows:
  1. Mark all cells that should have the same width.
  2. Then click on "Format" in the menu of the "Start" tab in the "Cells" area.
  3. There you have various options for adjusting the width, such as automatic adjustment or manual entry of a value.
After selecting the option, the columns appear in the new width. If you don't like the change, it can be easily undone by pressing "Ctrl" + "Z".
