GIMP: Blur - take the sharpness out of shots

It can always happen that details or objects cheat their way onto your shots that you didn't want to depict. So that you can still use the photograph, the GIMP blur tool is a good option. With it, you can blur unwanted objects or details so that they are no longer recognizable.

How to use the blur tool in GIMP

By using GIMP to blur your images, you can create really appealing effects.
  • First you need to launch GIMP and open the image you want to edit. In the toolbox you will find the water droplet. Select it.
  • Now a new window will open where you can set the parameters of blur. You must now select the opacity, the size of the brush and the different brush shapes.
  • Once you have confirmed your settings, you can blur the selected areas. Hold down the left mouse button and move over the area you want to edit.
  • The more you repeat the process, the more pronounced the effect.
  • When you are satisfied with the result, save it separately. Use the path "File" > "Export to" for this.

When can blur be helpful?

With the tool, you can make things that you do not want to or are not allowed to publish unrecognizable without having to insert an annoying black bar. In addition, you can also add an artificial focus to your shots. In doing so, the individual blurring creates a pleasant effect that also reveals an artistic aspect.
