WordPress: Create a category - this is how it works
With categories you arrange your WordPress posts in a meaningful way. It is important to create appropriate categories from the beginning. Categories are used for navigation, structure and overview of your WordPress site. Meanwhile, you can also incorporate them directly into the menus of your WordPress site.
WordPress: Create category in a few seconds
Categories are useful if you want to group similar posts together. You can use them in a menu to organize posts, in sidebars or widget areas, or to create category pages. To build a new category in WordPress, only a few steps are necessary.- Click on "My Website" and select the option "Manage".
- Then open the "Settings".
- Now click on the entry "Writing" and then on "Categories". Here you can enter a description of your category. A subcategory can also be created here. Would you like to superordinate a category, then activate the option "Top level Category".
- The new category now appears on the right in the overview. All important changes you can also make later, for example, if something changes in the hierarchy of categories.
- If you create posts, then they must be assigned to a category. For this, you can also set a default category, under "Manage" > "Settings" > "Write" > "Change categories".
- Alternatively, you can rename the default category "Uncategorized".
- To assign a post, go to "My sites" > "Website" > "Posts". Select a specific one and click on "Categories" and check the box next to the category you want to assign the post to.
