You get your first contact with metalworking through tin and copper as well as bronze. Later on, you will continue with iron. We read how you can find iron and why it is advisable.

With iron, your character in Valheim becomes really strong. However, it takes a while until you have access to it.

Valheim: How to find iron

Because you can not find iron in the initial areas (Shire Forest and Black Forest).

• You must defeat the second boss (The Ancient One) to get its key.
• With the key you go to the Swamp Land and can open the crypts there.
• In the crypts you can mine iron. So remember your pickaxe.

Each crypt you can return home with full bags. There you continue as usual with the smelting furnace, where you convert the scrap iron into iron ingots. As a result, you will unlock many new items, such as the iron armor, the hunter's bow and other powerful weapons and tools.
