iPhone: Using hidden functions - how it works

iOS is lavishly equipped, but even more features are waiting behind the surface. Our guide introduces you to some hidden functions and explains how you can use them.

You can activate hidden capabilities of your iPhone via code entry.

With an iPhone, hardly any wishes remain unfulfilled in the view of many Apple fans. However, real optimizers would like to know the last few percent.

iPhone: Hidden features especially for battery life

The following codes all work on the same principle, namely with a code that you enter into the phone keypad. After that, you just need to press the call button. The following codes might be helpful:
  • Enter *3001#12345#* to test the reception quality.
  • With *3370# you improve the voice quality, as you activate the EFR mode (Enhanced Full Rate).
  • The opposite, namely Enhanced Half Rate, you cause with *4720# to save battery.
  • With *#746025625# you activate a power saving mode, through which the system does not constantly access the SIM.
  • To quickly connect your iPhone to voicemail, simply hold down the [1] key for a longer time.
Really incisive are not these hidden functions, since they would otherwise be more obviously integrated anyway. In special situations, however, they can be a handy tool.

Hidden functions on iPhones with iOS 14

With the update to iOS 14, there are more hidden functions on the iPhone. For example, it is now possible to change the default browser by selecting a browser from the settings and tapping on "Default browser app". In addition, you can specify in the settings under "Home screen" that apps are only displayed in the app library, but not on the home screen.
