Apple HomePod: Connect speaker with macOS

The Apple HomePod allows you to have many tasks done easily via a voice command or ask for appropriate information. For example, if you want to play music, it is usually done through your iPhone or Mac. First, however, you need to connect the devices to the speaker.

Connecting Apple's HomePod to a macOS device

If you want to listen to music or adjust settings for the sound of the music through the HomePod, a previously connected Apple device is usually used. For this, you can use your iPhone or your Mac. To connect the HomePod to your macOS device, both devices must be on the same network, i.e. connected to the same WLAN.
  1. For example, to play music via the HomePod, first go to the sound settings of your Mac.
  2. You can access these via the settings or the speaker icon on the desktop.
  3. Then click on the HomePod to use it as an audio output device.
  4. After that, any audio you play through the Mac will be transferred to the HomePod, and Siri will be ready to use.
  5. To undo the setting, follow the same procedure.
