Android: Delete all contacts - here's how to do it

If you want to delete all contacts from your Android smartphone, it works either through the Contacts app or the device settings. With the right method, you even have the option to select and remove all contacts at once.

How to delete your contacts using the Contacts app

One option to remove saved contacts from your Android device is through the Contacts app. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Contacts app.
  2. Select a contact by pressing on the entry with your finger until a check mark appears.
  3. Tap "All" in the top left corner to select all contacts that are in the address book.
  4. Tap the "Delete" option in the bottom right corner afterwards.
  5. Confirm the deletion by tapping "Delete" again. The selected contacts will then be deleted.

Remove contacts via device settings

Alternatively to the Contacts app, you can also remove contacts from your Android device via the device settings.
  1. Go to Settings and switch to the "Apps" category.
  2. Tap "Contacts" in the list and then tap the "Storage" option.
  3. Select the "Erase data" option.
  4. Tap "OK" to confirm the deletion. Nach der Bestätigung werden sämtliche auf dem Gerät gespeicherten Kontakte entfernt.
Versehentlich gelöschte Kontakte können mithilfe eines Backups oder über die Einstellungen wiederhergestellt werden.
