Excel: Calculate frequency - with these formulas it works
With the spreadsheet program Excel you can have large data sets automatically evaluated with the help of formulas. If you are looking for specific values, you can also calculate them with the software. A special formula is available for this purpose.
How to calculate frequency in Excel
If you want to know how often a certain range of values occurs in a data set, you can find this out with the Excel spreadsheet program. For example, you can determine quantity intervals, so-called "classes". It is then possible to calculate the frequency of the individual intervals. For this purpose, you can use the formula "FREQUENCY(data;classes)".- First, you need to prepare your data set accordingly. In the first column, enter your data and in the second column, enter the classes into which you want to classify the data. In addition, you still need a column for the frequencies.
- Mark the area in which the frequency should be entered. Now select the formula input above and enter the formula "FREQUENCY(Argument1;Argument2)". Enter as the first argument for the formula the range in which your data are located.
- As the second argument, you must now enter the range in which your classes are located.
- In addition, it is necessary to press the key combination "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Enter key" after entering the formula. Thus, Excel recognizes that this is a matrix formula.
