Excel: Insert heading - how to name your table

In the Excel spreadsheet program, you can create different tables and assign functionalities to them. In most cases, you will have different tables. Here it makes sense to give each table its own name, so that they can be better distinguished. In Excel, this is easily done with a mouse click.

How to insert a heading in Excel

In Excel, if you want to give your table a heading, the best way to do that is to click on the appropriate column and then type in the heading.
  1. Create a new table. Excel should already automatically create a heading row.
  2. To create a table, you can first enter the values that are in the table with headings. Now select the top left box and select the item "Format as table" in the Start menu.
  3. Select a style sheet and confirm the operation. The values are now formatted into an Excel table.
  4. The headings row usually has a different color. Enter the headings here by clicking on the corresponding cell and then typing the heading on the keyboard.
  5. If you do not want to insert headings, deselect the option "Table has headings" when creating a table.
You can of course format the headings further by right-clicking on the corresponding cell and then select "Format cells...". Here you have the option to change the color or font and many other settings.
