Windows 10: Start Safe Mode

Safe Mode is designed to analyze problems with your operating system or hardware. Also, many problems with drivers can be detected and fixed through safe mode. In safe mode, Windows practically boots to a baseline state that hasn't changed.

How to start safe mode in Windows 10

Earlier versions of Windows kept safe mode startup simple. Nowadays, systems usually boot so quickly that you miss the crucial moment.

1. Often, when you start your computer, you hold down one of the [F10], [F11], or [F12] keys to enter Safe Mode. However, if you miss this window of opportunity, you can activate the mode in another way.
2. Start your computer and log in to your user account.
3. Then click on the Windows icon at the bottom left.
4. A new menu will open, where you click on the first icon from the bottom, which looks like a power button.
5. As you proceed, you will now be presented with new options.
6. Click "Restart" with the [Shift] key pressed.

How do you get into the mode now?

1. The action you took before lands you in the UEFI which you recognize by the light blue screen.
2. Nun müssen Sie auf „Problembehandlung“ klicken, damit Sie neue Optionen bekommen.
3. Wechseln Sie in die „Erweiterte Optionen “ und suchen Sie nach dem Eintrag „Starteinstellungen“. Klicken Sie dort auf den Button „Neu starten“.
4. Und wählen Sie „Abgesicherter Modus aktivieren“ aus, indem Sie auf die entsprechende Nummerntaste drücken.
