Sync Kindle App: How it works

As a Kindle owner, you can read your eBooks not only on your Reader, but also on your smartphone or PC. That's because there's a Kindle app for every system. Even more convenient is that you can continuously synchronize your content via the app.

Thanks to the Kindle app, you can transfer your reading progress to other devices.

How to sync the Kindle app: enable feature

In order to sync Kindle app content, you may need to enable the feature first. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Open Amazon's My Content and Devices browser page.
  2. Then go to "Settings" at the top and switch to "Device Sync (Whispersync Settings)".
  3. If the button is set to enabled, you can already sync content. If not, click "DISABLED" and enable the function.

Trigger synchronization

Synchronization runs very similarly on the respective apps.
  • In the web app, also known as Cloud Reader, click "Tools" at the top and then "Sync."
  • In the mobile app, tap "More" at the bottom right and then select "Sync."
  • On the Kindle itself, open the menu bar at the top and tap the gear. There you will see "Sync my Kindle".
So on all platforms, it's just a few taps to get there. It will always update the latest status. So if you have read in a Kindle eBook up to page 100, then open the app on the smartphone and synchronize, the book jumps to page 100.If you read on the road 20 pages further and later open the eBook on the Kindle, you get thanks to the synchronization directly to page 120.It is important here that you also synchronize on the device on which you last read, otherwise the latest status is not stored in the cloud.
