Using Google Maps offline - how to always find your way

In this day and age when everyone has a smartphone in their pocket, navigating with a paper map is a thing of the past. But if you don't have an internet connection, then this can become a problem. So we'll show you how to use Google Maps offline.

How easy it is: use Google Maps offline

If you want to use Google Maps offline, it is possible in a few steps.
  1. In advance, it is important that you have a stable Internet connection or WLAN when planning the necessary maps. Because this makes downloading the maps much easier and speeds up the process.
  2. Open Google Maps on your smartphone and enter the desired location. Then tap on the name of the city to open the additional options.
  3. You will now find several options from which you select "Download". In the Google Maps app, click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner and then click on "Download Offline Map". Confirm the selection and Google Maps will download the desired map.
  4. If you want to use the map, you need to open Google Maps as usual and click on the three dashes located next to the search bar.
  5. There you will find at the sub-item "Offline Maps" all the maps that you have downloaded. Click on it and the maps will open. You can now navigate as usual.

This you should consider

If you want to use the map to find the fastest routes while viewing traffic reports, you need Internet. An offline map will not help in this case. Also road works and temporary obstacles will not be shown to you.
