Outlook crashes when printing - what to do?

If your Microsoft Outlook crashes every time you print schedules or e-mails, this can have various causes. For example, outdated or faulty drivers can be the trigger for the printer problems. There are some tricks on how to avoid the crashes in the future.

Update outdated printer drivers

If Outlook hangs or completely crashes during printing, faulty or outdated printer drivers may be responsible.
  1. Using the Windows Device Manager, you have the option of downloading and installing new drivers for your printer from the network.
  2. Alternatively, you can also go to the manufacturer's website. There you will usually always find the latest drivers for your device.
  3. To avoid complications with the new drivers, it is advisable to first remove the old drivers.
  4. You can also do this via the Windows Device Manager. There are also special tools, such as the Driver Cleaner, with which you can remove drivers from your system without leaving any residue.

Start Outlook in safe mode

From time to time, Outlook itself or one of the add-ins can also be the trigger for the problem. Therefore, start the program in safe mode. This way you make sure that all add-ins are disabled and avoid possible error sources. If printing works in safe mode, it is likely that an add-in is to blame for the crashes. If that doesn't solve the problem either, you can try to uninstall Outlook and then reinstall it completely.
