Corewood becomes interesting at the latest after the successful boss fight against Eikthyr. Because then you will need the special wood if you want to build the stag smasher.

However, you will not find in the starting biome, the grasslands, but in the dark forest. There it's a bit harder, but with the right equipment it's still doable.

Valheim: Heartwood requires the right trees

To find heartwood in the Dark Forest, proceed as follows:

• Look out for pine trees.
• These are grown very high and you must first cut down the trunk before you can chop it.
• As a result, you get heartwood.

The prerequisite for this is a flint axe, but you can build early. With heartwood, you can build other objects besides the strong deer hammer, such as stakes, which are suitable as a defensive measure for your territory.
