Can you open files with OpenOffice Word?

If you want to create and edit text documents, there are numerous programs available. Especially the software from Microsoft is very popular. However, if you are looking for a free alternative, OpenOffice is a good choice. Files created in Word can be opened in OpenOffice at will.

How to open Word files in OpenOffice

To create and edit a text document on your PC, you need the right software. So that you have a wide range of functions at your disposal, programs such as OpenOffice or Word from Microsoft are ideal. If you have chosen the latter, you can also switch to the free OpenOffice program later. If you have saved the documents in the correct format, you can easily open them with the alternative.
  1. OpenOffice supports numerous formats. Among others, also the ".doc" or ".docx" used by Microsoft by default.
  2. Typically, the data is saved in this format on your system if you do not make any further changes.
  3. To save a file in Word in a specific format, go to "File" and then to "Save as". Here you have the option to specify the desired format in addition to specifying the location.
  4. If you now want to open the document in OpenOffice, click the file with the right mouse button. Now select "Open with" and then click "OpenOffice".
