Telegram: Delete messages - here's how to do it

Like WhatsApp, the messenger Telegram offers the possibility to delete single or multiple messages for all participants from a chat. Learn how you can remove messages in the iOS and Android versions of Telegram and what to keep in mind.

Delete messages in Telegram: Android

How to delete messages in Telegram depends on whether you use an iOS or Android smartphone. Follow these steps to remove messages in the Android version of Telegram:

1. Start Telegram and access a chat.
2. Tap a message you want to remove. To do this, tap and hold the message until it is highlighted.
3. Select all the messages you want to delete by tapping them. You can recognize marked items by the green tick.
4. Tap on the trash icon in the top right corner and specify whether the messages should only be deleted from you or also from your chat partner.
5. Tap on "Delete".

iOS version: delete messages on Telegram

1. Open the app and enter a chat.
2. Tap twice briefly on a message you want to remove to bring up the options menu.
3. Wählen Sie die Option „Mehr…“ aus und markieren Sie die zu entfernenden Nachrichten.
4. Tippen Sie oben links auf „Chat leeren“.
5. Wählen Sie abschließend aus, ob Sie die Nachrichten nur in Ihrem Chatverlauf löschen möchten oder auch bei Ihrem Chatpartner.

Anders als in WhatsApp gibt es in Telegram kein Zeitlimit, um Nachrichten für alle Chatteilnehmer zu löschen. In WhatsApp besteht diese Möglichkeit nur innerhalb der ersten Stunde nach dem Versenden.
