Windows 10: Install update manually

Normally, updates are installed automatically in Windows 10. However, if you have disabled this option or want to force an update, then it is possible to install it manually. To do this, you must first select and download the update via the Windows catalog.

How to install an update on Windows 10 manually

If you want to install an update on Windows 10 manually, there are several ways. Go to the "Update and security" section via the Windows settings. Click the "Check for updates" button there. If an update was found, you can download and run it via the "Install" button. Alternatively, it is possible to perform a specific update via the Windows Update Catalog.
  1. Go to the Windows Update Catalog website. Using the search function in the upper right corner, you have the option to search for a specific update.
  2. Once you have found the correct update, click on "Download" in the appropriate line on the right side to download the appropriate MSU or CAB file.
  3. Then open the command prompt on your computer.
  4. Now enter the command dism/online/add-package/packagepath: "PFAD_ZUR_DATEI\DATEINAME.cab". Note that you replace "PATH_ZUR_DATEI\DATEINAME.cab" with the appropriate path to the downloaded file.
  5. Bestätigen Sie den Befehl mit der Enter-Taste.
