Disable Google Photos - how to make the change

Any photos you take with your smartphone are stored in the Google Photos app and automatically uploaded to the cloud. To avoid using this feature, it is necessary to disable Google Photos.

How to disable photo upload in the Google Photos app

By default, all your photos that are in the Google Photos app are automatically uploaded to the cloud. However, if you don't want this to happen, you can disable auto-upload within the Photos app.
  1. To disable it, first open Google Photos on your smartphone or tablet by tapping the "pinwheel" icon.
  2. Then, if you haven't already done so, sign in to your Google account and open the menu.
  3. Navigate in the menu to "Settings" > "Backup and Sync" and move the switch located there to the left to turn off the upload.

What to do if Google Photos continues to upload photos despite deactivation

After you have performed the steps described above, no more photos should be uploaded to the cloud. If Google Photos still continues to upload photos, it may be due to settings in your Google account. To check this, please open the Settings app on your mobile device and navigate to "Accounts" > "Google" in it. After clicking on the name of your Google account, you will see a list of all services that are automatically synced in the background, and you may need to disable the photo upload here as well.
