FaceTime failed - how to fix it

If the activation or use of FaceTime on your iPhone failed, this can have different causes. Often, the problem can be fixed by simply restarting the device.

Possible reasons when FaceTime cannot be activated

The FaceTime app offers you the possibility to make free phone calls or use video chats on the iPhone, but also on the Mac or iPad. However, the use of the Apple application is only possible after prior activation. If problems occur in the process, so that the activation fails, this can have several reasons.
  1. First check the device settings and make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network or a mobile network.
  2. Also navigate to "Settings" > "General" > "Date & Time" on your device and make sure that the correct time zone is set.
  3. If the problem persists, reboot and then try to enable FaceTime again.
  4. If FaceTime is still not enabled after waiting for 24 hours, please contact Apple Support for further assistance.

This helps when FaceTime call attempts fail

Even if you were able to activate FaceTime on your iPhone without any problems, it may happen that calls or video chats fail. Since FaceTime requires an internet connection to make calls, this is the most common source of failure. Especially if you are using FaceTime over a mobile network, you need to make sure that FaceTime has permission to use mobile data. To do this, go to "Mobile Network" > "Mobile Data" in the device's settings and tap "FaceTime".
