The iPhone Xs has a 5.8-inch screen, while the iPhone Xs Max a 6.5-inch display. Improved photo compartment and more powerful processor
No surprises compared to expectations: the successors of the iPhone X are the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max. The two new apple phones were presented by Apple during the event organized in Cupertino. After the Apple Watch 4, to take the stage were the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, two smartphones that take the design from last year's smartphone, but under the screen are completely different.
The two new smartphones are much more powerful thanks to the new SoC A12 Bionic, the first made with 7-nanometer technology and that will ensure much higher performance. The processor also allows you to use augmented reality applications that will be developed with the new Arkit 2 platform. Speaking a bit about features, the iPhone Xs will have a 5.8-inch OLED screen, while the iPhone Xs Max will have a 6.5-inch OLED display (to compete with the Galaxy Note 9). Thanks to such large screens, the two new applephones will support landscape mode that will allow you to use some apps in landscape mode as well. Improved also the photographic compartment with the presence of a dual rear camera of 12 Megapixels (with new sensors with larger pixels) and a new True Tone flash.
The other big news of the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max is the support for Dual Sim. But Apple's proposed model is slightly different than what we're used to: there won't be a carriage to house two SIM cards, but the second card will be virtual. What does this mean? That the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max will support the eSim.
Apple announced, however, that for the moment in the Italian market no phone operator supports eSim: you will have to wait until the end of the year.
The pre-order of the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max will start from September 14, while shipments from September 21 (the day in which they will be available for purchase in stores). The price of the iPhone Xs starts from 1189 euros, while for the iPhone Xs Max will need to shell out at least 1289 euros. The two devices will come to market with iOS 12, available from September 17.
Features iPhone Xs
To see it from the outside it seems to be a copy of last year's iPhone X. But it is inside that the iPhone Xs hides the most interesting news: on board we find the new A12 Bionic chipset, the first made with 7-nanometer technology to be available on the market, which promises to be much more performant and consume less energy. Inside the A12 Bionic will be a new NPU (Neural Processing Unite) capable of completing up to 5 trillion operations per second. The iPhone Xs screen has a 5.8-inch OLED screen with a resolution 2,436 x 1,125 pixels, the same size as last year's iPhone X. Memory sizes start at 64GB and go up to 512GB.
All new is the photo compartment. At the back we find a dual camera with two 12-megapixel sensors: the main one has 1.4-micron pixels and a focal aperture of 1.8, while the secondary camera is a telephoto lens with a focal aperture of 2.2. In the front we find a 7-megapixel camera. Inside the notch are all the sensors for the FaceID, which as announced by Apple is faster than the one present on the iPhone X. Thanks to the power of the hardware, the smartphone integrates Smart HDR that guarantees better images than in the past. The portrait mode has also been improved thanks to the ability to change the depth of field in post production.
According to what Apple said during the presentation, the two smartphones will offer a longer battery life than its predecessor: the iPhone Xs will provide half an hour of use more than the iPhone X, while the iPhone Xs Max will have a battery life of an hour and a half more always compared to the iPhone X. The applephone has received IP68 certification and in addition to Dual Sim support, there's also the Gigabit class LTE modem.
Features iPhone Xs Max
There are no major differences between iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max. On board we always find the 7-nanometer A12 Bionic chipset and internal storage of 64Gb, 256Gb and 215GB. What changes is the size of the screen that on the iPhone Xs Max is 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2,699 x 1,242 pixels.
The design is the one we learned to know last year: display that embraces the entire smartphone with the iconic n0tch at the top of the screen. Notch that contains all the sensors for FaceID (unlocking via face recognition) and the 7 Megapixel front camera. At the back we find two 12 Megapixel photo sensors, with the main one having a 1.8 focal aperture and 1.4 micron pixels. Also on the iPhone Xs Max is the Smart HDR feature and the ability to change the depth of field in images taken with the bokeh effect. In videos, the ability to record videos with stereo sound has been added.
There is support for Dual Sim (with the second card only available in the form of eSim) and there is the modem Gigabit class LTE. Certificazione IP68 che rende lo smartphone resistente alla polvere e impermeabile all’acqua. Come detto, la batteria dovrebbe garantire un’autonomia di un’ora e mezza in più rispetto all’iPhone X.
