Nokia is expected to unveil as many as three new smartphones soon, including a model with 5G support. Here are the characteristics of the models
HMD Global, the Finnish company that has brought the Nokia brand in the world of telephony for a couple of years now, may soon launch three new smartphones on the market. The three new Nokia-branded smartphones have been discovered on the site of the Wi-Fi Alliance organization. The new phones from HMD Global have passed the certification process and, apparently, they will support the latest Android 10 operating system.
The Finnish company was ready to present the three new devices at Mobile World Congress 2020, the international trade fair dedicated to the mobile world that was supposed to take place in the week of February 24 and was cancelled due to the Coronavirus. HMD Global is betting heavily on these smartphones: according to rumors they should be an entry-level, a mid-range and a top-of-the-line with support for 5G network. The cancellation of the Mobile World Congress 2020 has pushed back the presentation of the two devices by a few weeks: Nokia is planning to organize ad hoc national events.
Nokia: model numbers
For now, the smartphones are recognizable only by the model number: TA-1223, TA-1227 and TA-1229. Still unknown technical characteristics of the three new devices branded Nokia, in addition to the adoption Android 10 smartphones should support dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, but remain shrouded in mystery the possible differences between the three devices, as well as their names with which they will be presented to the public. Adding to the mystery about the specifications of the new smartphones are also these unpublished model numbers, which have never appeared before.
The new Nokia smartphones
HMD Global was planning to officially present the three models TA-1223, TA-1227 and TA-1229 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the fair dedicated to telephony cancelled due to the spread of Coronavirus in Europe. Almost certainly the Finnish company will soon organize an event dedicated precisely to the launch of these three new smartphones that, according to a series of rumors and indiscretions of the usual well-informed, could be the new Nokia 8.2 5G, Nokia 5.2, Nokia 1.3 and, almost certainly, the Nokia 400.
The return of Nokia
The Coronavirus has unfortunately changed the plans of many companies that aimed at the Mobile World Congress 2020 to launch their latest news. Not only that, Nokia was intent on unveiling four new devices, plus what could be considered a real treat for nostalgics: an old school phone with a physical keyboard and WhatsApp support.
After also being certified and classified under the code TA-1212, the new featured phone was to be brought to market, especially in those developing countries where phones with physical keyboards are still in high demand. The TA-1212 would feature the KaiOS operating system, software that allows the installation of applications such as WhatsApp and Facebook, as well as part of the Mountain View giant's suite such as Google Maps and Google Assistant.
