Opel chooses Qualcomm for Astra 2022’s “Detox” dashboard

Aboard the new Opel Astra 2022 there will be the hand of Qualcomm, which has developed the technology for the huge digital dashboard

Qualcomm and Opel have announced in recent hours that the next generation Opel Astra will use the latest generation Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platforms. Curious the motto chosen for the project, Detox to the Max, in reference to the cutting of superfluous information made possible by digital dashboards, in particular that of Opel Astra 2022.

Hey Opel: with just two words the new Opel Astra will listen to the driver and passengers to fulfill their needs and requirements. As seen in competitor solutions, Opel's voice recognition also understands spontaneous speech and works through the internet like the entire latest generation of infotainment. The company has sought to achieve maximum comfort by minimizing the possibility of distraction from the road, and Detox to the Max is the motto used to combat all forms of digital stress. At its heart is the Pure Panel cockpit already available on the Opel Mokka and Grandland SUVs and, from the first half of 2022, also on the new generation Astra.

The potential of the all-digital Pure Panel dashboard, equipped with an extra-wide high-definition touch display, is made possible by the technological achievements made by Qualcomm with the Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platform, already used on other cars of the Stellantis group, but also by competitors. The Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platform from Qualcomm will provide the next-generation Opel Astra with voice functionality, wireless mirroring and audio, all with maximum energy efficiency and the ability to update the on-board operating system via OTA, i.e. remotely via an internet connection, much like smartphones, tablets and PCs. There are a number of advantages, including the fact that the car does not have to stop at the official service centre for the update and that the updates arrive promptly.

Qualcomm and Opel enthusiastic

Tobias Gubitz, Global Head of Product and Pricing at Opel, commented on the generational leap made possible by the technology on board the new Opel Astra developed by Qualcomm.

"We are honored to partner with leaders of Qualcomm's caliber to define next-generation experiences and thus accelerate the future of the automotive industry. We look forward to Qualcomm's Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platforms to help deliver the digitally advanced experiences we want to offer our customers."

He was echoed by Stefan Marxreiter, VP Business Development at Qualcomm.

"Qualcomm remains committed to developing superior automotive technologies designed to meet and exceed consumer expectations. The features inside the cabin influence purchase decisions a great deal, and we look forward to working with Opel to continue to strive to deliver advanced in-car experiences that are well-equipped, safe and enjoyable that their customers desire."
