You answer the phone to an unknown number and the line goes dead immediately? Don't call back, otherwise a scam that drains your remaining credit will be triggered
Day after day you are forced to defend yourself against new forms of scams. One of the most implemented in recent years is via telephone. It is now common to receive phone calls from unknown numbers, only to notice how punctually the line drops, without anyone on the other end saying a word. There is a reason why this happens, and the reason is the phone scam: the caller, in fact, waits to be contacted by the user, so as to drain his credit.
This type of phone fraud is very reminiscent of the viruses that years ago stole traffic, exploiting the fact that at the time it was still necessary to dial a phone number to access the web. In this way, the router was activated by a virus, constantly connecting to the Internet in total autonomy. No virus in this case, just an attempt to take advantage of the kindness of some citizens.
Telephone scams: the numbers to ignore
The good faith of people often pushes them to call back numbers that are absent in the address book. The phone rings and, in most cases, the caller's number starts with an 02, which means Milan and the surrounding area. The caller may be a friend or colleague, or a company that has reviewed the resume you sent in the previous months. There are many doubts triggered by that missed or unanswered call from the other party. So why not call, out of politeness or curiosity? La risposta è semplice, meglio non richiamare per evitare di farsi prosciugare il credito.
La verità è che dietro il prefisso 02, o altri particolarmente utilizzati per questo genere di truffe, si nasconde un sistema in grado di addebitare costi davvero esorbitanti. Un sistema che si ripete ormai da tempo, coinvolgendo svariate città italiane e attirando l’attenzione della Polizia di Stato. Occorre precisare però come la truffa scatti soltanto in caso di richiamata. Rispondere e non ricevere risposta infatti non comporta alcun addebito. Occorre precisare come questi numeri, così come il prefisso, servano unicamente da esempio. Sono infatti molti di più e con riferimento ad altre città, Roma su tutte. Se è vero che questi numeri non devono essere richiamati, occorre ricordare come si possano prontamente bloccare, sia su iPhone che su Android.

Il sistema delle truffe telefoniche
Il trambusto scatenato sui social e dal passaparola è stato talmente pervasivo che, non solo è intervenuta la Polizia di Stato, ma anche l’Autorità Garante delle Comunicazioni (Agcom) che ha addirittura aperto un’istruttoria. Agcom e gli operatori telefonici continuano a brancolare nel buio perché non sono ancora riusciti a capire come funzioni questo stratagemma, in grado di violare le reti cellulari, così come la sicurezza degli utenti. Il consiglio, purtroppo, è scontato: evitate di rispondere a numeri sconosciuti, e soprattutto, non richiamarli.
Più che la cortesia, in casi del genere ad avere la meglio è la curiosità. Spesso non si riesce ad allontanare da sé il pensiero che proprio quella chiamata persa potesse essere fondamentale. Al di là degli amici, che è possibile incontrare in seguito, il pensiero va automaticamente al mondo del lavoro. Ora però non esistono più scuse, per certi prefissi e determinati numeri è sempre meglio attendere d’essere richiamati e non fare il gioco di questi truffatori.
