Realme's latest flagship focuses everything on brute force and an affordable price to attract a specific clientele: young gamers.
A new top of the range smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC has been presented in China: it's the Realme GT 5G and, in addition to the processor, it's appreciated for a large Super Amoled screen and for a price, in China, really good. The only real weak point of this phone, in fact, would seem to be the photographic compartment not up to the competition.
The strong point, however, are the performances: from the first benchmarks Realme GT 5G is in fact more powerful than the best smartphone in the AnTuTu ranking of February thanks to a technical card that the best SoC currently available combines a good amount of high-speed RAM and the latest technology UFS 3.1 for storage space. As for the battery, however, it's not the capacity that stands out but the charging speed. It lacks, however, wireless charging. The price, finally, in China is very low and much lower (with the same configuration) than the current benchmark among the high-level Chinese smartphones: Xiaomi Mi 11. We'll see, when Realme GT 5G arrives in Europe, how much it will cost in Italy.
Realme GT 5G, the technical card
The technical card of the Realme GT 5G is at the level of that of the main competitors: SoC Snapdragon 888, 8/12 GB of fast LPDDR5 RAM and 128/256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage memory. With these components it is not surprising the result of 770,221 points on AnTuTu, much higher than the 726,939 points of the iQOO 7 with Snapdragon 888 and 12 GB RAM that is currently first in the rankings on the mobile benchmarking platform.
Results like this are allowed by the "GT mode", which sets with a single tap the smartphone and the software to increase performance during the most demanding gaming sessions. Still to be evaluated, but promising, the performance of this smartphone in terms of production and heat dissipation: it is equipped with a liquid cooling system.
The screen of the Realme GT 5G is a 6.43-inch Super Amoled with Full HD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate, with notch hole in the upper left corner. The battery is 4,500 mAh and recharges at 65 Watts, only with USB Type-C cable.
The sore point of this smartphone are the cameras, not from top of the range 2021 (but from top 2020): 64 Megapixel main sensor, 8 Megapixel wide angle and 2 Megapixel macro, to which is added the 16 MP front selfie camera. Good, but not great: this smartphone is all about pure power for gaming, it doesn't aspire to the podium of camera-phones.
Realme has already announced that Samsung's 108 MP HM2 sensor will be used on Realme 8.
Realme GT 5G, prices in China
Prices in China are very competitive: the basic 8/128 GB version is on sale for 2,799 yuan (about 360 euros at current exchange rates), the 12/256 version costs 3,299 yuan (about 420 euros). For comparison, the Xiaomi Mi 11 at the debut in China cost 500 euros for the 8/128 version, 540 euros for the 8/256 version, 590 euros for the 12/256 version.
At the arrival in Europe, the prices of the Mi 11 rose to 799 euros (8/128 GB) and 899 euros (8/256), it is still unknown when Realme GT 5G will arrive in the old continent and at what prices.
