Telegram update: consumption control and multi-account

The messaging app updates to version 5.4 and introduces many features designed for users around the world. Here are the new features

Telegram continues to evolve and win new subscribers. In 2018, it was the protagonist of a real boom in downloads and reached 200 million monthly active users. The figure has not gone unnoticed by CEO Pavel Durov, who recently promised to work even harder to make the app functional and effective.

On February 26, from the pages of the official blog, Telegram announced the release of version 5.4 for both Android and iPhone devices. There are three new features in the app: the automatic start of videos received via chat, the control of consumption through the management of downloads and the arrival of multi-account. With this maneuver, the British company wants to increase the satisfaction of users sown in every part of the world and shorten the gap that separates it from WhatsApp, the most widely used messaging application in the world.

Telegram update: consumption control

The first innovation takes into account the country of origin of each subscriber and prevents the download of data starts automatically. This in fact also depends on the cost of the data connection of the individual country. The function thus allows you to control consumption effectively. In this way, Telegram takes into account the difference in data connection rates in different world zones.

Also, documents that are too heavy are no longer automatically downloaded to the cell phone, but from today the user's permission will be asked. The choice made will then be recorded and applied in subsequent downloads.

Automatic playback of received videos

The second novelty is the auto-play of videos, a feature already present in many applications, including Facebook. The videos received in Telegram chat will start automatically when the user scrolls through the conversation, but they will be without sound. To activate it, you will need to increase the volume of the device.

The arrival of multi-account

Until now, to access Telegram from another account you had to log out and log in again. With version 5.4 you have all the registered accounts within a single interface. This solution is very useful for those who use the app with both a professional account and a personal profile and want to keep the two roles separate in the different chats.

You can already add up to three different accounts within the app. Of course, the user will receive regular push notifications from all registered profiles, and in each of them the account they are intended for will appear.
