What are the characteristics of the individual promotions and which, in the long run, may be more convenient? Below we will analyze what are the advantages offered by the two operators, through a comparative analysis to understand who to choose: Very Mobile or Iliad?
The connection speed and coverage
The first factor that we will consider is the connection speed of Very Mobile and Iliad: before getting to the heart of the matter, however, it is necessary to make a premise, which will serve to know more closely the two operators.
Iliad is a French low cost operator, landed in Italy in 2016: it has its own network infrastructure, in continuous expansion, and for the points not yet covered it uses the support of the WINDTRE network. It is, however, an MNO, that is, a Mobile Network Operator.
Very Mobile has a more recent history: it is the MVNO, Mobile Virtual Network Operator, of WINDTRE, which in practice "lends" its network infrastructure to allow Very Mobile to work and to be able to market its promotions.
In terms of coverage, there are no particular discrepancies between Very Mobile and Iliad, as both are able to cover 99% of the national territory. Let's see then what are the most significant differences, the first of which have to do with speed.
Very Mobile can have a last generation network of 4G type, which is able to reach a maximum speed of 30 Mbps, both in download and in upload. Si tratta, in pratica, delle stese velocità raggiunte da altri MVNO operanti in Italia.
Per quanto riguarda la velocità di connessione di Iliad, i risultati di alcuni speed test hanno dimostrato che in alcune città italiane è in grado di superare quella di Vodafone. Iliad può contare su una rete di tipo 4G e 4G+ e, molto probabilmente, il prossimo traguardo mobile dovrebbe essere quello del 5G: la velocità può raggiungere i 390 Mbps in download e i 50 Mbps in upload.
Le offerte di Very Mobile
Dopo aver indagato e messo a confronto copertura e velocità delle reti dei due operatori, passiamo alla parte che in genere attrae maggiormente l’interesse di ogni cliente: il costo e le caratteristiche delle promozioni.
Very Mobile offre delle tariffe mobile che partono dalla cifra di 4,99 euro al mese fino ad arrivare a 13,99 euro al mese. Le offerte Very Mobile al prezzo più basso sono di tipo operator attack. Cosa vuol dire questo termine?
Che si tratta di promozioni che possono essere attivate solo nel caso di passaggio da determinati operatori a Very Mobile: per esempio l’offerta che ha un costo di 4,99 euro al mese può essere attivata o per nuovi numeri, oppure per chi sceglie la portabilità da Iliad, PosteMobile e altri MVNO.
La promozione prevede un costo della SIM di 5 euro e comprende:
• chiamate illimitate;
• minuti illimitati;
• 30 Giga di Internet.
Un’altra tariffa di tipo operator attack è quella che può essere attivata dai clienti Iliad, Coopvoce, Fastweb, PosteMobile e altri MVNO, con la quale, al costo mensile di 6,99 euro e il contributo una tantum di 5 euro, si avrà accesso a:
• chiamate illimitate;
• minuti illimitati;
• 100 Giga di Internet.
La stessa promozione può essere attivata anche per tutti i nuovi numeri al costo di 7,99 euro al mese. Per quanto riguarda i clienti provenienti da altri operatori, come per esempio TIM, Vodafone e Kena, le due promozioni appena descritte possono essere attivate:
• al costo di 11,99 euro al mese, quella che include 30 Giga;
• al costo di 13,99 euro al mese, quella che include 100 Giga.
Le offerte di Iliad
La differenza fondamentale tra le promozioni di Iliad e quelle di Very Mobile consiste nel fatto che le promozioni Iliad possono essere attivate da tutti, a prescindere da quello che è il loro operatore di provenienza.
Si tratta di un vantaggio di non poco conto, nella misura in cui si potrà scegliere liberamente di attivare una delle offerte a basso costo di Iliad o con un nuovo numero, oppure mantenendo quello che si aveva con il vecchio operatore.
Un altro punto di forza di Iliad è rappresentato dal prezzo delle offerte, che resterà fisso per sempre: negli anni non sarà dunque soggetto né a rimodulazioni, come spesso avviene per le tariffe di altri operatori, né a rincari improvvisi.

• 40 Mega per navigare in Europa.
L’offerta Iliad Giga 40 ha invece un costo fisso mensile di 6,99 euro, che include:
• chiamate illimitate in tutta Italia;
• minuti illimitati in tutta Italia;
• chiamate illimitate in Europa;
• messaggi illimitati in Europa;
• 40 Giga al mese per navigare in Italia alla velocità del 4G o del 4G+;
• 2 Giga per navigare in Europa;
• chiamate illimitate verso più di 60 destinazioni estere.
L’ultima offerta proposta da Iliad si chiama, infine, Giga 50: prevede 10 Giga in più rispetto all’offerta Giga 40, con un costo aggiuntivo di 1 solo euro. La promozione ha infatti un costo di 7,99 euro al mese, nel quale sono previsti:
• chiamate illimitate in tutta Italia;
• minuti illimitati in tutta Italia;
• chiamate illimitate in Europa;
• messaggi illimitati in Europa;
• 50 Giga al mese per navigare in Italia alla velocità del 4G o del 4G+;
• 2 Giga per navigare in Europa;
• chiamate illimitate verso più di 60 destinazioni estere.
Le promozioni per la telefonia mobile di Iliad includono un contributo una tantum per l’acquisto della SIM di 9,99 euro e i seguenti servizi gratuiti già attivi:
• Mi richiami;
• Hotspot;
• Nessuno scatto alla risposta;
• Piano tariffario;
• Controllo credito residuo;
• Segreteria telefonica;
• Portabilità del numero.
Very Mobile o Iliad: chi vince?
Sulla base di quanto detto finora, per trovare la soluzione che si adatta meglio alle proprie esigenze tra Very Mobile e Iliad bisogna capire a cosa non si vuole rinunciare. If for example you want to keep your old number:
- with Iliad you can choose indifferently between the three offers available, without having to activate a new number, and thus spending up to a maximum of 7.99 euros per month;
- in the case of Very Mobile, however, you can access the offers with lower cost only in the case of transition from certain operators, for example if you are Iliad customers. Otherwise you will be able to spend even up to 13.99 euros per month.
On the speed of connection there is not much to say, in the sense that Iliad wins with closed eyes: being an MNO, its connection speeds are currently much higher than the Very Mobile MVNO.
Discussion is different, however, if you are looking for a promotion that has a large number of monthly Giga: in this case, some of Very Mobile offers allow you to have twice the monthly Giga provided by Iliad offers, at prices that are still low.
To conclude, then, the choice between Very Mobile or Iliad can be defined as better for each customer only if weighted on the basis of what he really needs and what is really important to him in a mobile promotion.
