What do we know about Facebook’s much-talked-about name change

Only speculation about the reasons: renewal operation or attempt to make people forget past mistakes? Why is everyone talking about Facebook's name change and what do we know.

The scoop is from The Verge, an online science and technology publication. The object of the journalistic revelation is instead the social network with the most members in the world: Facebook. In fact, not only Facebook has to do with this news, but also WhatsApp and Instagram. All platforms controlled by Facebook Inc., a U.S. multinational company based in Menlo Park, USA, founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, who is currently its CEO.

Because everyone is talking about what Facebook might do in the coming days

The news is that Facebook Inc. would like to change its name. "Facebook is considering changing the name of its company within the next week." No word yet on the new name, but per Alex Heath, who wrote about it in The Verge on October 19, the intention would be to "reflect a focus on building the metaverse." What is the metaverse? It is the creation of a parallel reality, composed of codes and representations, therefore virtual. It is a goal not only of Facebook, but a bit 'of all the major players in Silicon Valley. "The next big thing", the space race, but virutal.

To return to the mysterious question of the name change, the journalist in his article cites some direct sources, without specifying names and surnames. For its part, Facebook has neither denied nor confirmed. The eyes are focused on the annual conference "Connect" next October 28, the event organized by Facebook and entirely dedicated to augmented reality and virtual reality that will be held, well, virtually, of course.

Why Facebook wants to change name: some hypothesis

On the one hand, the intentions of the big tech could go in the direction of a rebranding, ie a renewal, which would like to manifest itself already from the name. On the other hand, however, many have pointed out how, on the part of the company, there could be the intention of wanting to get rid of an image polluted by a greater attention of the U.S. government towards business practices evidently considered unclear.

We'll see, in any case it is not excluded that the announcement of the new name could arrive even before Connect. As well as it is not said that the truth on the motivations of the choice is not right in the middle and Zuckerberg is trying to kill two birds with one stone.
