The Korean company may soon launch the first flexible smartphone. News also on the Galaxy S8
The revolution in the world of smartphones is closer than we think and Samsung proves it to us: in fact, the Korean company has filed a patent for the realization of the first foldable smartphone. The document was published last week by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
At first glance, taking a look at the images published by the site Patently Mobile, the smartphone would seem to fold like a wallet. No information is provided on the technical characteristics nor on when the technology will be implemented on future phones produced by the Korean company. From the patent, what stands out most to the eyes, is undoubtedly the auxiliary display, or the additional screen to be used when the smartphone is folded. The small screen is placed on the back of the phone and to the right next to the flash and camera sensors. The photos, then, show in detail how the "folding" unit is composed.
Not only smartphones
The patent, which was filed last May but made public only a few days ago, confirms once again how Samsung is very active in the creation of new "flexible" technologies to be adopted soon on upcoming devices. During Display Week 2016, the company showed in a video a prototype of a 5.7-inch roll-up OLED screen. The Korean company, moreover, would also be thinking of creating the first roll-up TV, as evidenced by the patents that Samsung has recently filed.
New information about the Galaxy S8
In the meantime, from South Korea come new rumors about the company's next top of the line, the Galaxy S8. According to what circulates on the net in recent hours, unlike the previous series - Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7, Samsung's new smartphones will both have an Edge-To-Edge display. Another novelty, always making faith in these rumors, revolves around the serial number. The models, in fact, will be presented with the code SM-G950 and SM-G955. Now considering the predecessors, Samsung goes from 3 to 5 leaving out the number 4. The Galaxy S7, in fact, was launched with the code SM- G93x. Going back to the display, the Galaxy S8 will be presented in two sizes: the G950 will have a 5.7-inch screen, slightly larger than the S7 edge's 5.5, while the Plus model will have a 6.2-inch display.
