My Voice, the app that gives ALS patients a voice

The Nemo Clinical Center has come up with My Voice, an app that allows people with neuromuscular diseases to record sentences with their own voice

In everyday life, it's easy to take even the most mundane gestures for granted. Being able to talk to loved ones and friends is a small thing, yet it is very important. Those who suffer from neuromuscular diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), know how important these gestures are. And this app is designed for them.

In most cases, ALS leads to a progressive loss of various abilities, including the ability to express oneself vocally. Medicine has not yet found a definitive cure for this disease, but technology is trying to help people suffering from ALS. For this reason, an app called My Voice has been created that allows people diagnosed with the disease to record their favorite phrases before they lose the ability to express themselves vocally. In this way, in the future they will be able to use their own voice, in certain contexts, instead of the metallic voice of the optical reading instruments.

My Voice

The My Voice application was created by the Nemo Clinical Center, and is designed for all people affected by a particular disease, who are afraid of losing the ability to express themselves with their voice and want to record phrases, the most important ones, to say in the future. My Voice is available on both Apple and Android devices. There is also an application designed for Windows systems. It is a paid app but all money raised goes to fund research at the Nemo Clinical Center. The application allows to classify with a color some of the most important phrases, such as "I love you" or "I love you", so that they can be used in a simple way by the person suffering from ALS or another neuromuscular disease.
