The start of electronic invoicing between private individuals is getting closer and closer, but there are still many doubts about what it is and how it works. Here are some clarifications
From January 1, 2019, electronic invoicing has become mandatory also between private individuals: the systems and procedures used until now only by suppliers of the Public Administration must therefore be used by a wide audience of professionals and companies. A reform that concerns over 5 million VAT registered companies in our country and that should bring with it important innovations on the front of tax avoidance and evasion. Despite the fact that it should already be in full swing, there are still many doubts about electronic invoicing between private individuals.
There are several recurring questions about electronic invoicing. There are those who wonder, for example, since when there is electronic invoicing. Or how e-invoicing works and how to do e-invoicing. Not to mention those who still wonder what electronic invoicing is.
What is e-invoicing?
As the name suggests, e-invoicing is the digital version of the old paper invoices we are used to today. Electronic invoicing, therefore, is a system in which the tax document is created, sent and stored in digital format, so as to speed up the practice of sending the invoice to the Inland Revenue and any tax assessments. Obviously, from the moment the electronic invoice obligation comes into force, paper invoices cannot be issued or accepted.
Electronic Invoicing, since when?
As mentioned, the electronic invoice has already been issued by all suppliers of the public administration since April 2015 and, after several postponements, from January 1, 2019 it becomes mandatory also for the issuance of invoices to individuals and companies.
Who will have to issue electronic invoices?
The obligation of electronic invoice is valid for all holders of VAT with the exception of holders of VAT that fall under the so-called "regime of minimum" or "flat rate regime" and "Small agricultural producers".
Electronic invoicing, how does it work?
The whole system of electronic invoicing is based on a software created by the Revenue Agency and called Sistema di Interscambio (SdI).
If you fall into the categories with the obligation to issue and you don't know how to do electronic invoicing, you don't have to worry. The procedure, in fact, has not changed so much since the days of PA invoice and everything goes through the Interchange System. To send electronic invoice you will have four methods available: through the PEC of the professional or business that must issue it, through the web client made available by the Revenue Agency; using an online platform such as SiFattura; with systems based on FTP transfer.
The four options are obviously equivalent: sending through Certified Electronic Mail is convenient both from a practical and economic point of view for individuals.
Platforms such as Libero SiFattura are the most appropriate solution for professionals and small and medium-sized businesses and facilitate the management of the invoice flow thanks to an intuitive interface and easy-to-use tools.
