Push WhatsApp backup manually - here's how
WhatsApp switched backup feature to Google Drive in November 2018. With this switch, you get unlimited storage for your backups. The problem with this, however, is that during the switch, all previously saved backups in Google Drive older than a year are automatically deleted.
How to push a manual backup of WhatsApp
If you saved your WhatsApp data as a backup in Google Drive, they were already automatically deleted in November 2018 if they were older than one year. For this reason, it was necessary to manually push a backup before. To take advantage of the unlimited storage that is now available to you, you can save your backups to Google Drive. However, keep in mind that your files will not be stored encrypted in the cloud. For this reason, a local backup is usually the best option. If you still want to use Google Drive, this is possible in a few steps.- Open WhatsApp on your mobile device.
- Then click on the top right on the three dots below each other to open a menu with more options.
- Click on the lowest button to open the settings of the app.
- In the next menu, now select the item "Chats".
- Here you have several choices. Click on the option "Chat Backup".
- In this view you can see when you have created the last backup locally or with Google Drive.
- Click further down on "Backup" to create a new backup.
