Surface Pro 6: Touchscreen does not work

If the touchscreen of the Surface Pro 6 no longer works, this does not necessarily have to be due to a defect in the display. Often, the problem can already be fixed by rebooting or installing updates.

Surface Pro 6 touchscreen doesn't work: How a restart helps

If the touchscreen of your Surface Pro 6 doesn't work as usual, restart the device. To do so, go to "Start" and first click "On/Off" and then "Shutdown". If the device is off, press the "Power button" to restart the Surface Pro 6.
  1. If the normal shutdown of the computer is no longer possible, you can also force the shutdown.
  2. To do this, hold down the power button of the device until the screen turns off.
  3. Then briefly press the power button again to turn the Surface back on and wait until the Microsoft logo appears.

What you can do if the touchscreen of the Surface Pro 6 does not work

If the touchscreen still does not respond after the restart, check for updates. To do this, go to "Start" > "Settings" > "Update and Security" > "Windows Update" > "Check for Updates" and install the updates if any are available. Then restart the computer.
  1. To test the functionality of the touchscreen, start the Surface in UEFI mode. If the touchscreen does not respond in this either, there is a hardware defect and you will need to contact Microsoft for repair.
  2. On the other hand, if using the touchscreen in UEFI works, restart the Surface and reinstall the touchscreen drivers in Device Manager.
