Zoom: Change background - how to do it

To prevent your conversation partners from seeing where you are, Zoom offers you the possibility to change the real background and replace it with a virtual one. What steps are necessary for this and how to use your own photo as background, you can read here.

How to change the background displayed in Zoom

By using Zoom you can make video calls with colleagues or friends over the Internet. If you don't want your conversation partner to see where you are, you have the option to change the background and use a virtual background.
  1. To set a new Zoom background, please start the program first and click the "gear icon" in the top right corner.
  2. In the menu, then go to the "Virtual Background" section and click on the "Select a new background" option.
  3. Now choose either one of the existing backgrounds or click on the "plus icon" to add a new photo.
  4. If you want to use your own image as a background, please click on "Add image" and navigate in the opening window to the directory in which the image is located.
  5. Finally click on "Open" so that Zoom replaces the current background with the new image.

Change the background during a video call

Even if you are already on a call or in a meeting with Zoom, you can still change the background displayed. To replace the real background with a virtual one, please click on the arrow located next to the "End Video" entry. After that click on "Choose a virtual background" and select a new background.
