Receiving faxes as email - is it possible?

Nowadays, not many faxes are sent - but if you still want to receive and send some, you have the possibility to receive faxes as email. You can do this either through a cloud service that provides you with a number, or you can set up the feature through your router.

With some online providers, you can receive faxes as email completely free of charge. The data is saved as a PDF document with most providers when you receive or send a fax.

E-Fax online: Receive email instead of fax

  1. Simple-fax.co.uk: register for free on the site of simple-fax.co.uk and activate your own fax number. Faxes you receive are free of charge and will be sent to you as PDF more mail. Sending a fax costs 7 cents per page.
  2. Inopla.de: Also with this service you can send and receive faxes via your email account. Incoming faxes are forwarded directly to your mailbox.

Receive faxes as email - set up function on router

Many Internet providers make it possible for you to set up e-fax on your router, including, for example, Telekom and 1&1. As a Telekom customer, the setup succeeds by logging into the Telephony Center online. Then select call forwarding for your fax number and forward faxes to your PC fax number.1&1 customers log in to the FritzBox user interface and must first activate fax transmission with T.38 in the connection settings. Then set up the "forward as e-mail" function. If you do not find the corresponding options, it is helpful to click on "Advanced View" in the menus.
