Mac: Split Screen - Use Split View on Mac

If you work on a Mac and only use one screen, it can quickly become confusing if you want to use two applications simultaneously. However, Apple has offered you the Split View feature since the macOS version El Capitan. With this, you can split your screen and display two applications at the same time.

How to use the Split View feature on Mac

If you want to use multiple applications on your Mac at the same time, then this is easily possible since El Capitan. With the operating system version also came the ability to split the screen of your Mac, allowing you to use and view two applications or programs side by side at the same time. In doing so, the two windows are automatically scaled to the appropriate size, so that both take up exactly half of your screen.
  1. First open both applications on the Mac.
  2. In one of the two open windows, now click on the green button for full screen mode in the upper left corner. While doing so, hold down the mouse button until the window shrinks.
  3. You can then release the mouse button again.
  4. Now click on the other application to select it for the second half of your screen. It will then be filled with the second program.
  5. If you don't want both applications to get the same amount of space, you can additionally adjust the size and position of the windows. To do this, you just need to move the dividing line between the programs with a pressed left mouse button to the right or left side.
