AMD software: What Radeon Boost brings - all info

Radeon owners have many options for optimization thanks to the driver software. One of the latest achievements is called Radeon Boost and promises significantly more performance.

Even more dynamic: Radeon Boost works especially in fast games.

We presented the major update of the Radeon driver software, Adrenalin 2020, in more detail here. In the following, we will now take a look at one of the new features, namely the Boost function.

Radeon Boost: Strong FPS increases possible

With Radeon Boost, the frame rate is supposed to increase strongly in some games. The principle behind it:
  • In particularly dynamic moments, such as a quick turn in a first-person shooter, the resolution is reduced at the edges of the image. Up to 50 percent is possible here.
  • The reduced pixel count logically improves performance. At the same time, the lower resolution is not supposed to be noticeable, since it only takes place in the edge area and is hardly noticeable anyway because of the movement.
  • According to official information from AMD, an FPS increase of up to 38 percent is possible. That is quite a lot, since 60 FPS, for example, directly becomes over 80 FPS.
Top titles like GTA 5, Overwatch, PUBG and Borderlands 3 are among the games supported so far, and more will follow. You can activate Radeon Boost in the software under "Settings" and then "Graphics". There you can choose from three percentage values, so 50 percent is not mandatory, but an option alongside 66.6 and 83.3 percent.
