"Ok Google" doesn't work - these are the causes

You can unlock your Android device using the voice command "OK Google". From time to time, however, it happens that the voice activation does not work. This can be due to an outdated version of the app, for example, or because the function is deactivated.

"Ok Google" voice activation does not work

If Google Assistant does not respond to "OK Google", the service may either not be active or not installed. To check, press and hold the homescreen button on your Android device. If the message "Hello, how can I help you?" appears, Google Assistant is installed. If you do not receive a message, you have a device without the Google Assistant. "Enable Ok Google" on devices with Google Assistant:
  1. Hold down the homescreen button on your Android device.
  2. Tap the compass icon in the bottom right corner, then tap your profile picture or initials.
  3. Go to "Settings" and switch to the "Assistant" category.
  4. Under "Assistant devices" select your device and activate the Google Assistant.
  5. Also activate the "Access with Voice Match" function.
  6. If you want to unlock your device with your voice, you must also turn on the "Unlock with Voice Match" function.
If you do not have Google Assistant installed on your Android device, call the settings of the Google app. There you will find in the category "Voice Input" the option "Voice Match", so that your device is also unlocked by "Ok Google".

Update Google App

If the Google app is not up to date, this can also be the cause that the voice activation does not work as usual. Therefore, check if there are updates for the app.
