Change Opera User Agent - how it works

If you have the problem that you can't access some web pages while surfing with Opera, using Opera User Agent can help. What exactly is behind the term User Agent and how to change its settings, we show you here.

How to make changes to the User Agent in Opera

Opera is one of the most popular browsers because of its high security standards, but it is not supported by all websites. To get around this problem and use Opera to call unsupported sites as well, setting up the Opera User Agent helps. If this is activated, Opera pretends to the websites that you are using another browser.
  1. To set up the Opera User Agent, please first click on the Opera icon, which you will find in the top left corner of the browser.
  2. Navigate to "Settings" > "Quick Settings" and switch to the "Network" tab under "Page Specific Settings".
  3. Look there for the entry "Browser Identification" and select from the drop-down menu whether Opera should pretend to be Firefox or Internet Explorer.
  4. Once you confirm the changes with "OK", they are applied and the user agent is set up.

These further options are offered by the Opera User Agent

In addition to the possibility that Opera masquerades as another browser, you can also select the "Pretend" option in the User Agent settings. If you have chosen this option, some sites may still recognize Opera. In addition, an add-on is also available for the Opera User Agent, with which further changes are possible.
